Node.js plans security updates for 22.x, 24.x and 26.x on November 11 or shortly after, with a highest severity of High. Fixed versions and vulnerability details are not yet published.

## Evidence and response priority

- Category: Vulnerability
- Oktsec priority: Review this week
- Rationale: The project has announced forthcoming security updates. Prepare deployment this week; technical scope, fixed versions and exploitation evidence remain undisclosed.
- Evidence: Attacks not established
- Verification: Vendor confirmed
- Fix status: No fix available
- Exposure requirement: Not established
- Vendor: Node.js
- Products: Node.js 22.x, Node.js 24.x, Node.js 26.x

## Technical overview

This is an advance notice, not a release of available patches. Node.js has announced security updates for its supported branches, with High as the maximum severity in each. The project expects the releases on November 11, 2026 or shortly after.

The announcement does not yet identify CVEs, corrected build numbers or the conditions needed to exploit the issues. It does not report active exploitation. Those details must be checked when the releases appear.

Oktsec recommends preparing the deployment now: identify who maintains each runtime, test the application and plan image rebuilds where needed. For runtimes outside support, plan migration to a supported branch. These are preparation steps, not a mitigation for an undisclosed vulnerability.

## Recommended response

Inventory deployed Node.js runtimes and prepare compatibility tests and a rollout plan. Apply the security releases when available and verify the running version after deployment.

Relevant to: Teams maintaining Node.js applications, container images, build runners and services that supply a Node.js runtime.

## Response checklist

1. **Locate deployed runtimes** — Record the Node.js version used by each application, container, build runner and managed service. Check the deployed runtime rather than relying only on package metadata or a developer workstation.
2. **Prepare tests and a rollout owner** — Oktsec recommends assigning an owner, checking application compatibility tests and identifying which images or packages need rebuilding. Prepare a rollback procedure without assuming that a rollback restores security.
3. **Check the release before choosing a version** — Revisit the official announcement on November 11. Select the corrected build for each supported branch once published, and check the disclosed conditions and any additional guidance. The announced date may move.
4. **Deploy and verify the running version** — Once the corrections are available, rebuild affected images, redeploy applications and verify the runtime in running processes. For managed services, confirm the provider rollout and any required customer action.

## Relevance to AI environments

Include agent services and MCP servers that run on Node.js in the inventory. The announcement does not establish a flaw specific to agents or MCP.
